Get a Sneak Peak... Utility Aprons for Curvy Makers Coming Soon!
It's getting exciting around here at The Apronary. New fabric care labels have arrived, I'm putting size labels in, pockets are sewn and ready for embroidery, and I've made my first big fabric orders from organic cotton companies around the USA. A bobbin winder is buzzing, winding the various colors of new cotton thread. I'm busy as a bee (or a wasp or a sphinx moth...they're all busy). It seems like the sewing/craft room has gotten much smaller. There's an ironing/pressing station, an embroidery machine, 2 sewing machines, a cutting station with a projector setup, and a nearby pot of coffee.
So much goes into creating the aprons, more than even I knew. It's taken months of work just to get a proper pattern setup. Fabric preparation is another thing I didn't think about. New fabric rarely comes pre-shrunk, so in order to make sure your aprons don't turn into shrinky-dinks I have to wash, dry, and press the fabric before cutting. Washing one or two yards of fabric isn't hard, but I'm washing 10 yards or more at a time. Fabric is heavy, but it gets heavier when it's wet. So I have to add hours of prep into my process that I wasn't planning on. This whole endeavor is a huge learning process, and I'm really pleased to have you along with me.
